A special event about archaeological excavations. Listen to archaeologists’ stories about their communities, conflicts, hard work and fun times. Younger visitors can take part in a mini excavation, with exciting finds guaranteed. Guided tours during the afternoon in both Swedish and English, evening lectures in Swedish. This day event focuses on vitally important chemistry. The exhibition Aspiring to Precision highlights the beginnings of chemistry at Uppsala University during the 19th century. Come and hear more about the Swedish elements, discoveries and exciting experiments. In the Vault everyone interested can explore the chemistry of food, the body and life through experiments. Chemist Olle Matsson lectures about poisons and life. The guided tours are in Swedish and English, the lecture is given in Swedish.

Autumn half term activities
The World on Paper
Maps are in focus during the half term holiday. Linnéa Krylén, illlustrator and author of children’s books, reveals the secret world of maps, where there are explorers who wanted to be first, researchers who found what they were looking for, and others who did not. Workshops offer the opportunity to learn to read maps and to make your own. Talk in Swedish and workshops in Swedish and English.

Uppsala’s museums throw open their doors for a joint special event. This year’s theme is journeys. Test your knowledge during a visit to Gustavianum’s newly opened Art Store and Coin Cabinet in University House. Guided tours and lectures are given in Swedish.

Uppsala University Jazz Orchestra, with their musical director Ulf Johansson Werre, invite you to a seasonal concert in Gustavianum’s stairwell. After the concert, UUJA’s new Christmas CD may be purchased at a specially reduced price. Tickets for the concert are available from Gustavianum’s shop.

How have the objects come to Uppsala University and what is their relevance for researchers and research today? Listen to interesting tales about scientific instuments, unique games from the 17th century, and medical pioneers. The guided tours are given in Swedish.
