The Museum's Mission

The overall aims of the museum are to mirror the university’s activities against a historical background in such a way that the Museum becomes the natural meeting place for social debate and experiences of high-quality.
Museum Gustavianum with its University Art Collections and Coin Cabinet have a mission both antiqaurian and museum-related within the University’s responsibility for our cultural heritage and the third mission.

Included in this mission is:
- making parts of the university's collection of objects available to researchers, students and the public, as well as reflecting the activities of the University today against a background of its history.
- being in charge of the maintenance of the collections preserved at Gustavianum, in the Husbyborg object archive, in the university building and other external localities.
- being in charge of the administration, information and marketing of the Svedberg Ultra Centrifuge.
- co-operating in the formation of guidelines for the care of objects within the University.
- offering suggestions for measures for the preservation of the historical collections within the University which lack particular organisation.
